{"id":1385,"date":"2015-05-11T11:12:29","date_gmt":"2015-05-11T11:12:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/modified.globecore.com\/?p=1385"},"modified":"2015-05-07T11:16:35","modified_gmt":"2015-05-07T11:16:35","slug":"bitumen-emulsifying-equipment-peculiarities-of-usage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/modified.globecore.com\/bitumen-emulsifying-equipment-peculiarities-of-usage\/","title":{"rendered":"Bitumen-Emulsifying Equipment: Peculiarities of Usage"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: center\"><b>Bitumen Emulsions Production<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>Oil based bitumen is widely used in the road construction industry due to its excellent binding properties. \u00a0Bitumen should be heated up to 100-200\u2070\u0421 \/ 212- 392\u2070F to make it liquid and only then is it mixed in with other chemical compounds. \u00a0The ready mixture should be transported and applied only when it is hot. \u00a0When the bitumen mixture becomes cold, it gets stronger and begins to set-up.<\/p>\n<p>There is another way to get liquid bitumen by using kerosene. \u00a0When kerosene evaporates, the bitumen mixture begins to solidfy and eventually becomes solid. \u00a0There had been no alternatives to these methods until bitumen emulsion made a breakthrough in the high-tech road construction market.<\/p>\n<p>The production of bitumen emulsion consists in dispersion of bitumen in water. \u00a0Sometimes inert additives may be added to this mixture. \u00a0The strength of the pavement is provided by water evaporation and subsidence of bitumen paste. \u00a0This technology is safe, because it significantly to reduces the risk of harmful vapours, burns, and fires.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\"><b>What does term \u201cBitumen Emulsion\u201d mean?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>Emulsion is a finely-divided system consisting of two or more liquids. \u00a0For example, in the <b>\u2018oil and water\u2019 system<\/b>, oil is a disperse phase, and water is a constant one. \u00a0Therefore, bitumen emulsion is produced as a result of mixing. But, when the mixing process is not performed, the mixture becomes broken down. \u00a0Special substances such as emulsifiers are added to the mixture in order to prevent such consequences. \u00a0They allow the emulsion to maintain stability and not to fall into separate phases. \u00a0If the bitumen emulsions contain from 40% to 80% of bitumen, they look like a sour brown color (diameter of bitumen droplets ranges from 0.1 to 20 microns).<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\"><b>Bitumen-Emulsion Equipment<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b>The <\/b><b><i>GlobeCore<\/i><\/b><b> <a href=\"http:\/\/modified.globecore.com\/equipment\/bitumen-emulsion-equipment.html\">UBV units<\/a><\/b> are designed for bitumen emulsion production. They operate on the basis of a colloid mill which is supplied with a mixture of warmed up bitumen. \u00a0The special claws on the rotor of the colloid mill are designed to provide increased turbulence which improves the bitumen grinding process.<\/p>\n<p>There is also bitumen emulsion equipment that has an uninterrupted mode of operation. \u00a0First, components such as additives, hot water, and emulsifier are metered in a special container and mixed up with bitumen to make a water phase.<\/p>\n<p>Then, the colloid mill is supplied with this mixture. \u00a0Such equipment can also be equipped with special pumps, required to meter the components of a disperse system and to warm up water. \u00a0There is no need in using container-type tanks while mixing the components. \u00a0Such additives such as <b>SBS-modified bitumen<\/b> and <b>latex<\/b> are mostly used in bitumen emulsion production. \u00a0The latex metering should be performed with a help of special equipment since it can form clots in the pipes and pumps. \u00a0Bitumen should be divided into separate droplets to get a finely-divided system. \u00a0But, there are such problems as: (1) viscosity; (2) surface tension; and (3) \u00a0internal cohesion of bitumen. \u00a0Additionally, some separated droplets can merge again. \u00a0Mechanical energy should be applied to get lots of small stable particles.
