Bitumen modification is a process of improving bitumen by mixing it with polymer additives. Application of polymer-bitumen binding improves the strength of construction materials and lowers repair costs. Materials based on modified bitumen, have superiour quality: improved resistance to temperature and water, high strength and flexibility. Such materials are widely used in road and civil construction.
GlobeCore offers a solution for construction companies with large needs of modified bitumen: the UMBP-40 bitumen modification unit. This equipment is based on a 40 cubic meter per hour colloid mill.
Principle of operation
A mix of bitumen, adhesive additive and plasticizer is pumped into the mill inlet, where the mix is blended with a polymer. Then the mix is pumped under pressure through the mill, where it is homogenized.
Bitumen, plasticizer and adhesion additive are pumped under pressure to the mixer inlet. In the mixer, the components are subjected to cavitation, mixing them.
The colloid mill combines the functions of mixer and homogenizer. Inside the mill, the components are mixed, pulverized and homognized with polymer. THe mixing process involves binding of bitumen and polymer and agitation by the mill’s teeth. The bitumen is injected under pressure along the perimeter of the polymer injection chamber, making for a more complete process.
Control temperature and pressure of bitumen, plasticizer and adhesive additive allows to fully control the process in each point of production.
The unit is equipped with a return bitumen line for gradual warm up of the components and for flusing of the unit with clean bitumen.
The polmer injection section is equipped with a rotary feeder driven by a cage motor. Capacity is regulated by a frequency variator.
Polymer is supplied to the mill by a screw conveyor. Polymer unloader is required for continuous operation of the unit.
The unit is built in a single container. Operation is controlled from a single control cabinet.
