Colloid mill CLM-8/16
The CLM-8/16 colloid mill is engineered for inline homogenization and emulsification of liquid products, particularly thick slurries with high shear stresses.
This mill finds extensive use in various industries, especially in grinding granulated SBS-polymer for modified bitumen preparation.
Principle of Operation
The CLM-8/16 colloid mill operates on a rotor/stator system diagram, comprising concentric tool rings (cutters, knives) on the rotor and stator with specialized grooves and holes to optimize mechanical impact on the processed product. In operation, the rotor and stator tool rings rotate coaxially at high speed (up to 47 m/s) without contact, facilitated by axial and radial gaps. Processed product enters the mill housing through the stator’s axial bore (product inlet), passes through the rotor/stator system, and exits radially (product outlet). During passage through the rotor/stator system, the product undergoes complex hydrodynamic processes, altering shear stresses, forces, and flow velocity, leading to accelerated chemical reactions and resulting in intensive dispersion, emulsification, homogenization, grinding, and pulverization of the product.
